Overmatter: Stop right there

Ah, stop-motion animation, a technique that brings back fond memories of Morph, Trumpton et al, as well as more recent exponents such as Wallace & Gromit.

The medium’s lively charm had understandable appeal for the team at Instantprint, which decided on a stop-motion treatment for its first-ever video.

The Yorkshire firm teamed up with animation experts Emerald Sky Studios, whose credits include work on Fantastic Mr Fox and Corpse Bride, as well as Leeds creative agency Intermarketing for the 60-second promo showcasing printed items in the context of different types of company, with the theme of ‘print for every business’.

It clocked up around 1,000 hours of animation time in the making and contains five quirky scenes featuring a selection of Instantprint’s products including business cards, posters, leaflets and booklets and also some ‘hidden objects’.

The video now has pride of place on the firm’s homepage at www.instantprint.co.uk and, after a fortnight of being promoted through social media and an email campaign, had racked up an impressive 465,269 views on YouTube at the time of writing – pretty incredible for a print-related video that doesn’t have either a celebrity angle or a little plasticine person, dontcha think?
