Oc CrystalPoint tech could find home printing solar cells and PCBs

Oc could extend the applications for its CrystalPoint imaging technology - currently used in the ColorWave 600 wide-format printer - into specialist industrial printing areas.

Printed circuit boards (PCBs) and solar panels are two potential markets currently under consideration. The firm is focusing its efforts on areas that will specifically benefit from the precision CrystalPoint delivers.

"We've developed a product demonstrator prototype for PCBs to test the application," said Océ chairman Rokus van Iperen, who also said the firm intended to work with partners with specific expertise in these specialist markets.

Océ said that in PCB printing the CrystalPoint technology had the potential to reduce the number of production steps by two, while at the same time reducing costs by around 30%. In solar panels it could cut production costs and increase energy generation.
