New year predictions: Keith Boyce, Minuteman Press King's Lynn

Boyce said he was "really chuffed" with the new Duplo DBM-350
Boyce: embellishments have come into vogue

Minuteman Press King's Lynn owner Keith Boyce is hoping to see inflation back under control in 2024.

What positives are you able to draw on from the experiences of 2023?
Input prices had stabilised (though today I got a phone call from my paper merchant), supply chain issues have greatly reduced, allowing us to focus on our marketing, our customers, and improving the business' performance.

What trend (business or technology) do you think has been accelerated because of the impact of inflation?
We have looked to higher value products, embellishments through our Xerox Iridesse, our foiling capabilities and die-cut products to name a few. This year we have found them very much in demand, as customers look to differentiate.

We've found it more and more important to manage customer stock and provide customers with more on-demand products, which itself has led us into fulfilment and the challenges that brings.

What do you think will represent the single biggest opportunity for printers in 2024 and why?
Acquisition: this will allow us to add new products and services to our existing portfolio.

What are your hopes for 2024?
For inflation to be back under control and confidence to be restored across all our markets.

What piece of advice do you wish you had been given in December 2022 to prepare you for the year you’ve just had?
As you develop new products and services, ensure they can deliver the growth and acceptable ROI.

What was your word or phrase of the year in 2023?
Keep calm and carry on!

What, if anything, will you do differently in 2024?
Be more realistic.

Will you be going to Drupa 2024?
Of course.

What would be your fantasy technology (or trend) you would like to see on show in Düsseldorf?
When I see it, I will know that’s what I have got to have!

Sprouts, yes or no?
YES

Are you making any New Year's resolutions? If so, what?
We've resolved to celebrate our achievements more.
