CJK Packaging has expanded its offering with the acquisition of long-standing packaging and catering supplies specialist W.F. Denny.

W.F. Denny is based in Altrincham and supplies a range of food packaging, bags and partyware.

The business was originally established by William Fowler Denny in 1919 after he returned from fighting in the First World War and was unable to find regular employment.

Denny and his wife started selling packaging and haberdashery using a wooden cart and horse that belonged to a local baker.

Today the business serves a range of B2B and B2C customers from an online store and also a physical shop. CJK acquired the firm from its current owners, the Haken family.

CJK Packaging is also family-owned, and is based in Derbyshire’s High Peak. It supplies a wide range of glass, metal and plastic containers, and also offers label application services.

Managing director Joe Sizeland commented: “By applying W.F. Denny’s extensive stock to CJK’s existing suite of premium packaging products, we will be able to provide even greater value to customers at a much wider scale. We are thrilled to welcome the entire W.F. Denny team to the CJK family.”

W.F. Denny director John Haken added: “We are proud of W.F. Denny’s 100-year history, and our experience in eco-friendly catering packaging and partyware. Joining forces with a company as passionate about product quality and customer satisfaction as us, is what takes us into the next chapter in our story.

“We look forward to adopting CJK’s resources and capabilities to continue driving value for our customers.”

Haken will remain with the eight-employee business for a six month transition period and will then retire.

CJK employs 18 and has sales of £3m.
