The Continuous Run System (CRS) 2020 is a dual-die cylinder machine that can be configured with up to eight flexo-printing units.
The fact that the machine has two die-cutting cylinders, only one of which is used at any one time, means that a die-cylinder can be changed while the machine is running on the other.
The flexo plates can also be changed in units that are not being used while the line is running. The highly automated makereadies mean that three- to five-minute die changeovers are possible, making short-run high-quality packaging viable.
"The standard in the industry is around 30 minutes on a die-cutter," said MWP regional sales manager Mike Peplinski. "Traditional machines target long-run, simple graphic boxes, but the market is shifting to short-run manufacturing."
The first model has already been installed at Indiana-based Welch Packaging. The CRS 2020 is expected to ship to the UK in Q1 2006.
