MSO packaging arms merge

MSO Group has shut its Galloways packaging plant in Manchester as part of its strategy to streamline the business following its high-profile acquisitions.

The division focused mainly on food and pharmaceutical packaging and the operation has now been combined with MSOs newly bought Storey Evans, based in Bradford. Galloways had a turnover of around 3.5m and 21 of its 22 staff have found jobs, either in other divisions of the group or through the BPIFs outsourcing scheme.

"We are looking to streamline where there are dual functions within the group," said MSO Group chief executive Dominic Walsh. "The ongoing squeeze in the packaging sector meant we had to make this move. But it has been amicable and an easy transition."

Storey Evans was acquired earlier this year and specialises in pharmaceutical packaging. The division has a workforce of 183 and its clients include GSK.

MSO Group made its second purchase later that month, buying former TP8 division Hannibal from administrator UHY Hacker Young.
