More paper producers to up prices

Three further paper producers have joined the ranks of those announcing price increases for next year, adding to the woes of UK printers.

Finnish paper producer UPM is to increase its prices for coated and uncoated fine paper grades by 34 (50) per tonne.

This will take effect from 1 January and follows the producer's recent price increase for coated and uncoated mechanical grades for magazines.

Stora Enso has revealed that it plans to increase prices for newsprint from 1 January. The increases are expected to be up to 34 per tonne for standard newsprint grades and 41 per tonne for improved newsprint.

At the same time, carbonless, thermal and cast-coated label paper producer Mitsubishi HiTec Paper, is to increase its prices by 5% worldwide.

Mitsubishi's price rises will take effect from 15 February 2006 and will cover its Giroform carbonless paper reels and sheets, thermoscript thermal paper and Super-coate label paper.
