Masterwork Graphics upgrades Duo range with new packaging features

Chinese finishing equipment manufacturer Masterwork Graphics has launched an advanced version of its Duo foiling, die-cutting, embossing and stripping machine.

The Duo+, which is available now, also has blanking features, allowing packaging companies to produce ready-to-glue cartons in one pass.

According to Masterwork Graphics managing director Ken Farnsworth, the machine was built after a series of requests from packaging companies.

He said: "Customers want cartons fully clean, ready to go on the gluer and this machine gives them that. Previously the Duo didn't leave a finished article; the cartons still needed to be broken apart.

"Everything is on the machine so it can all be done in one pass. It is a very versatile machine - you can be a foil-blocker one day and a foil blocker, diecutter the next."

The Duo+ can run at 5,000sph and handle sheet sizes from 76x106cm to 400x350cm.

The Duo was first launched at Drupa 2008. Since then, around 35 have been sold worldwide. The first Duo+ is expected to be installed in Germany in May.

Masterwork Graphics has recently opened a new facility in Tianjin, which will produce around 500 machines a year. Farnsworth said it was the biggest post-press manufacturing plant in East Asia.
