The latest version of the digital content tool is available in Apple's Universal binary, making it compatible with both Intel and Power PC Macs.
It automates a number of tasks, including switching between rules for PDF and non-PDF print jobs and automatically creating fonts and images folders.
There is also support for more third-party fonts, such as Extensis Suitcase Fusion, Insider Software FontAgent Pro, Linotype FontExplorer and Apple Font Book, as well as the option to prioritise font searches.
Other features for ease of use have been added, such as a simple pass or fail symbol for print jobs, page numbers for images and control over effective resolution for on-screen images and font and icon sizes in printed reports.
The software had been in closed beta since November 2006, with a broader testing environment opened up over the last few months.
Bruce Robinson, manager of pre-press operations at US marketing firm Siquis, which participated in the beta group, said: "FlightCheck 6 is much improved over FlightCheck 5, especially in the area of detecting missing fonts. This is going to make a lot of people happy. Now, more than ever before, it offers us the robust quality control we need for the high-end output the customers expect."
Markzware chief executive Patrick Marchese said: "Printers and publishers are pressured to provide faster turnaround and control expenses in order to maximise already low margins. FlightCheck 6 delivers on Markzware’s promise to provide our customers with top-flight pre-flighting to compete and prosper in today’s fast-paced environment.”
FlightCheck 6 is compatible with both QuarkXPress and Adobe InDesign CS3.
