The survey said £2.2bn was spent on magazines in 2007, a 4.7% increase since 2006, suggesting that the industry has recovered well from a low point in 1991. It claimed this was despite the fact that magazine prices have risen by 61%. Weekly magazine prices have more than trebled and monthly prices have doubled since 1967.
In terms of UK advertising expenditure, the results show press has maintained a leading position, holding a 41% share of the total spend. The report went on to say consumer magazines account for 4.4% of the total advertising spend while business magazines account for 5.4%.

Consumers are spending more on magazines than in previous years with a significant rise in the number of copies sold, according to The Advertising Statistics Yearbook 2008.
