Ricoh has launched the new Pro C5400 Series of colour production printers that are said to combine both enhanced speed of production and operation with greater usability.

Targeted at commercial and enterprise operations, the Pro 5400 Series will replace the Pro C5300 series – including the ProTMC5310S, C5300S, and Pro C5300SL – which is being phased out.

For commercial printing applications, Ricoh said the new printers would deliver improved image registration accuracy achieved through enhanced paper feeding stability and more precise image adjustment functions.

The new series supports a raft of different media types, including coated paper, waterproof paper, envelopes, synthetics, clear plastic files, and long sheet printing up to 1.3m.

Features of the series, which boasts print speeds of up to 80ppm for high productivity full-colour output, include a reduced warm up time, from 120 seconds to 26 seconds for the Pro C5410S, and 30 seconds for the Pro C5400S.

It also features duplex scanning up to 300ppm while workflow efficiency is enhanced by new AI-powered orientation detection and support for continuous scans of small-format documents such as business cards.

Increased touchscreen capabilities have improved usability on the machine while an elevated paper setting user interface is said to ensure consistent print quality, according to Ricoh.

A finisher option features what Ricoh claimed was an “industry-first” staple-free binding function that uses water to moisten and press the papers together, enabling stapleless binding up to 16 sheets for corner binding, or up to 12 sheets for two position binding.

There is also a new envelope fusing option, with faster envelope printing speed, plus improved paper transport stability and enhanced image registration accuracy for duplex and long sheet printing, with a redesigned Vacuum Feed Large Capacity Input Tray (LCIT).

Ricoh said the new series also boasts higher precision image alignment with trapezoidal and right-angle correction functions.

Finally, the use of recycled materials has been increased by more than five times in this series compared to its predecessor.

“Greater production capacity and versatility is enabled by the new Pro C5400 Series that has been designed to help commercial and enterprise operations expand their capabilities,” said Eef de Ridder, vice president, Graphic Communications Group at Ricoh Europe.

“Print production environments need to consistently and flexibly meet greater demand for a wider range of short run applications. The comprehensive upgrades are all focused on powering consistent, high-quality print on a range of substrates to ensure operations can confidently and repeatedly achieve that.”

The Pro C5400 series will be commercially available from July in EMEA. Ricoh told Printweek the new series “is at a similar price point as its predecessor range, allowing it to be competitive in the low production market segments”.
