Lonsdale brings bookletmaking in-line with Oc VarioPrint 6250

Lonsdale Print Solutions has upped its mono capacity and boosted the productivity of its bookletmaking work after investing in an Oc VarioPrint 6250.

The Wellingborough, Northamptonshire-based company has replaced one of its existing VarioPrint 2110 machines with the newer model that runs at 250 A4ppm.

The new press has also come specified with a Watkiss PowerSquare, which allows the company to finish work in-line.

With more than 20% of the printer's work made up of black-and-white booklets, bringing digital finishing in-line has improved productivity at the 85-staff business.

Gary Kiernan, joint managing director at Lonsdale Print Solutions, said the VarioPrint will print around 70% of the booklet work thanks to the new square back finishing facility.

He said: "After reviewing the competitors, the Océ double-sided technology won hands down for both speed and registration.

"Since the installation, the efficiencies gained have eliminated not only this problem, but increased staff output in the digital area by more than 35%."

The latest addition to Lonsdale's kit set-up, which included an investment in a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75 in June, will also help handle its growing level of personalisation work.

"The amount of personalisation we have been doing has increased threefold during the past 12 months and the integrity of on-line bookletmaking has assisted in a recent contract win," added Kiernan.
