Logson expands Scottish presence with Boxshop buy

Independent corrugated packaging supplier The Logson Group has acquired The Boxshop, a Scotland-based independent manufacturer of cardboard boxes.

The acquisition is the latest in a recent line of purchases for the Coalville, Leicestershire-headquartered group, which operates as a parent brand to nearly 20 corrugated packaging companies in the UK.

Last year the group acquired Scott Packaging Glasgow and Jardin Corrugated Cases while its other companies include Board24, Boxes and Packaging and Cases24.

Douglas Lamb and David Protheroe, joint managing directors of East Kilbride-based The Boxshop, will continue to lead the business. Lamb said: “In joining the Logson family, we have the security of being part of an excellent group, with a first-class reputation in our industry.

“The Logson culture will allow us to maintain our independent flair, backed by the financial strength and scale of the UK’s largest independent. We have exciting plans for our business moving forward and this move can only enhance our offering to both existing and new customers.”

Logson Group chief executive Alex Kelly added: “The acquisition of Boxshop is a clear indication of our continued desire to grow within the UK market. Boxshop represents a step change in our capability within the Scottish marketplace.”

The Boxshop will bring its 90 staff and turnover of over £14m to The Logson Group, which employs more than 850 people and had a turnover of around £185m prior to this acquisition.
