Lexon boosts shrinkwrapping to increase efficiency

Lexon Group has invested in Audion equipment to make its shrinkwrapping process more efficient.

The commercial printer bought the Audion EL-MATIC EM 24 fully automatic L-Sealer and TE-MATIC TM 18 L Doubleink tunnel from Friedheim International at Ipex for £20,000.

The firm researched the market and found that the Audion equipment was the best fit for its requirements. It was installed at its premises in Newport, Gwent in April.

“We made the investment to increase our speed of throughput. We have a little shrink wrapper too but it wasn’t keeping pace with our workload. We now run that alongside this,” said director Malcolm Davis.

“Very little training was required. It’s been like getting used to driving a new car and we've found it easy to set up and operate.”

The investment is part of Lexon Group's £1.5m expansion project. In the past year it has bought a five-colour Komori press, a Lamina litho laminator and an automatic gluing line as well as a Screen Truepress Jet 3200UV at Fespa Digital in Munich last month.

The firm has also started construction of a new pallet warehouse and plans to make further equipment investments later this year.

Lexon Group was formed in 1971 and employs 50 staff. It offers a range of commercial and digital printing as well as finishing services including folding, laminating, guillotining, bookbinding, box making and shrink wrapping.
