K+L Laminators cuts finishing bottleneck with Polar guillotine buy

Trade finisher K+L Laminators has invested in a Polar N115 guillotine with stacklift, jogger and pile-turner to boost its production capacity.

The Hove-based firm is expecting to take delivery of the 1.15m-wide device in January. It is also due to install a Saroglia foiling machine in the same month.

The business said that the materials handling around the cutter would speed up operations, particularly with large sheet work.

“We need this additional cutting capacity to ease the workload on the existing Polar. We like the Polar build quality, reliability and ease of use and Heidelberg is a company you can trust, with the best machines and excellent back-up,” said managing director Darren Miles.

“This technology is easy to use and is value for money. We have had other makes in the past but since owning a Polar we have never looked back.”

Director Emma Miles added: “A lot of the A1 and B1 work that we do comes in upside down, so we’re having to turn it all over before we start doing anything on it. With the pile-turner we won’t have to do that anymore.”

K+L has also recently bought an adjacent unit, adding an additional 325sqm to its existing 372sqm premises. The added space will accommodate the firm's new equipment and also enable it to bring back over some of its existing machinery, which is currently situated at its sister company Kensett’s premises.

The firm has 14 staff and a turnover of £1.1m. Besides cutting and foiling, the company also offers services including laminating, creasing, encapsulating, spot UV, embossing, debossing and gluing.
