Killer app: Pureprint adds seasonal sparkle to Liz Earle catalogue

Retailers regularly go the extra mile at Christmas to make sure their festive catalogues grab the attention of busy shoppers, with many enhancing their Yuletide offerings with striking or stylish designs and special finishes to ensure they stand out.

Skincare brand Liz Earle’s latest catalogue is just one of 2015’s many fabulous examples that PrintWeek has come across and tweeted about over the past few weeks.

What did the job entail?

Pureprint litho printed the catalogues using six-colours and then used brass coloured wire to stitch the job to match the gold colouring of the Liz Earle logo on the front cover.

A Sensapeel sample of Liz Earle’s latest perfume was then hand applied at the printer’s in-house fulfillment and mailing centre.

Print finishing specialist Reflections added gold foil to the front cover and used spot UV to enhance the whole of the front and back cover.

Liz Earle required more than 250,000 copies of the catalogue, which were sent to the brand’s stores and concessions for customers to pick up in-store.

How was it produced?

Liz Earle sent the artwork through to Pureprint, which imposed the 32 A5 landscape pages – 28pp text plus cover – on a six-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105. Chorus Lux Silk stock was used - 150gsm for the text pages and 250gsm for the cover – and Pureprint stitched the job using a Muller Martini Bravo Plus six-station saddlestitcher.

What challenges were overcome?

“Getting a good fit on the UV was the main challenge,” said Pureprint sales and marketing representative Kevin Smith. “There was an intricate UV across the whole of the outside cover, especially as it had to be UV’d eight-up.”

What was the feedback?

A Liz Earle spokesperson said: “We were very happy with the finished result along with a nice finishing touch of the gold staples. It’s always a challenge to make the finished result look as you envisage it but with teamwork between both companies we believe we achieved a great result.”
