Jubilee Greenwood Press brings laminating work in-house

Jubilee Greenwood Press is saving time and money after bringing all its laminating work in-house following a review.

The 12-staff print company installed a Komfi Amiga 52 laminating machine two months ago due to its compact size, ease of use and quality of work.

It cost £24,000 and works at about 3,000sph. The machine runs alongside a B2 Heidelberg SM 74, two Heidelberg GTO 52s and a Xerox C75 digital machine that may be upgraded in the near future.

Jubilee development director Mark Cooper said: “We already had a small, hand-fed unit to laminate our short-run digital print jobs, but sent anything larger out to trade finishing houses.

“This procedure was proving both unsatisfactory and uneconomic so we took the decision to bring all our laminating in-house.

“After investigating a few possibilities, I saw a demonstration of a Komfi laminator at Friedheim International and this put a big smile on my face. It's lovely to use.

“The Amiga 52 model is compact in design, which helps with space issues, is easy to use, offers good laminating and is very productive.”

He added: “We are now able to upsell more services to our customers, such as soft-touch lamination. We used to offer only general matte lamination.

“The B2 market is very competitive, with people trying to get the price down on print, but they are happy to pay for a good finish.

“We would like to bring as much in-house as possible including many of the traditional skills. Next on the list is foil blocking.”

Based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, Jubilee Greenwood Press was formed in 2009 from the merging of two well-established companies Jubilee Press and Greenwood Press.

The company offers services from design to finishing for customers that range from local firms of various sizes to larger corporate concerns.

“Installing the new Komfi Amiga 52 means we are now able to offer a better service to our customers by having total control over all our laminating,” said Cooper.

“It is making the short-run work much quicker and is also allowing us to take on more of the longer print runs.

“We can better meet tighter deadlines when required, have reduced our transport costs, and with the training provided by Friedheim, our operators enjoy working with the Amiga.

“It has already benefited us in terms of achieving cost efficiencies through greater control and productivity.”
