John Bettis passes away

Industry veteran John Bettis, who spent his 40-year career as a union official representing employees' interests, has passed away.

Described by his wife and daughter as "a loving family man", Bettis began his career at Pembroke Packaging.

He spent 20 years as a trustee of the Printers' Charitable Corporation (PCC) and served on the management committee of Southwood Court, a PCC residential home, from 1965 until his recent death.

PCC chief executive Stephen Gilbert said: "For 44 years, to the end of his life, John continued to represent the interests of others as he had done from his trade union days. In the latter years, it was the interest of the 40 people who live at Southwood Court. John will be missed."

John is survived by his wife Kathy, son Stephen and daughter Sharon, three stepdaughters and eight grandchildren.
