Jadan Press invests in second Polar guillotine

Hull-based B2 printer Jadan Press has bought its second Polar guillotine in just over two years, as a replacement for a 10-year-old Wohlenberg machine.

Following its investment in a Polar 92X Plus in October 2011, Jadan Press has now upgraded its second, smaller guillotine to a new Polar 78 Eco, giving it an all Polar cutting setup.

The Polar 78 has a smaller cutting width at 780mm than the 920mm on the 92X and a marginally lower maximum loading height (120mm versus 130mm) but both offer the same 45 cycles/min cutting speed.

Managing director of Jadan Press, Pam Wainman, said that while the 78 Eco didn't have the touchscreen control and same level of automation as the 92X, it was still "miles better than what we had before".

"We've done a big order on an A7 pad this week and the operators have said the clamp is better and it's much better at cutting the smaller sizes than the older machine," she added.

The Yorkshire print business, whose press setup includes two Speedmaster SM 74s - a two and five colour - opted to buy new rather than secondhand for the increased reliability.

"We have been busy and felt we deserved this new machine which will handle the cross cutting and smaller work, providing a back-up for the Polar 92X, which has been a successful machine for us," said Wainman.

"Some pundits are saying we won't really see a recovery until 2015 but here business is very buoyant. We have been veery busy."
