Jacrac installs UK's first Samsonn Digital UV flatbed

Jacrac Display has taken delivery of the first Samsonn Digital UV flatbed printer in the UK.

The automotive POS supplier based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, took on the machine to strengthen the quality of output for well-known vehicle brands.

The Samsonn uvfast1215R-5 has a 1.2x1.5mm flatbed with ink delivered from three Ricoh Gen-5 printheads. It runs at speeds of up to 28sqm per hour.

The Samsonn Digital brand is owned and distributed by Fastek Consultancy, which is based in neighbouring Bingley, although the machines are built in China to Fastek's specifications.

Jacrac managing director Peter Jackson said: “We needed reliability and excellent service. We’ve had exemplary service from Fastek over the years.

“We've had flatbeds before and wanted to add to our production range. Fastek had this new brand and we were very impressed with samples from the machine.

“We’re very impressed with the quality of output for our application. A key element in our final decision was the three-year warranty that comes as standard.”

Fastek launched the Samsonn range at Sign & Digital UK in April 2014. The company is also a reprographics consultant and managed print services provider.

Jackson said the uvfast1215R-5, which has a list price of £45,000, offered the lowest total cost of ownership in its class for his five-staff company.

“We also do screen printing but digital print gives us a lot more on-demand work and enables us to produce more jobs very efficiently.”

Fastek operations director David Green said: “The beauty of UV-cured production is that the output is immediately useable without lengthy drying times.

“This is a key benefit when you’re working to tight deadlines for demanding customers. Applications are almost as wide as your imagination, we’re talking to glass manufacturers, packing companies and even a coffin manufacturer.”

Green added: “We launched the brand last year, focusing on eco-solvent roll-to-roll printers, but we introduced the range of flatbed UVs this year.

“We wanted to take on current brand leaders such as Roland and Mimaki because their kit is expensive and doesn't have to be.

“We backed this up with a three-year warranty, with all the parts and stock held here in the UK. Our engineers are all employed, not self-employed, so we offer good, fast service.”
