As a result, the 1 July edition of the newspaper never made it out of the printers.
According to reports, the editorial copy was completed, but the print site in Meath was unable to receive the files following a link failure.
A spokesman for the Mirror Group said: "Due to an unprecedented telecoms supplier problem that was beyond our control, the Irish Daily Mirror was not published today."
The Daily Mirror in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland is regionalised, so the decision was taken to send out the UK version to Northern Ireland. But the publisher chose not to do the same in the Republic, presumably fearing a political backlash.
