International Print Day returns for sixth hurrah

International Print Day (IPD) is being celebrated today (23 October) to encourage the global print community to share ideas, projects, and thoughts about print on social media.

The 'day' began at 11pm in the UK yesterday (6pm Eastern Time in the US) and concludes at 11pm today.

For 24 hours only, print enthusiasts from around the world are being urged to join the online celebration of print using the hashtag #IPD19. The IPD website is offering a range of downloadable posters and logos to share.

The event is also using the hashtag #Print2Gether to highlight the collaborations and partnerships that drive the print industry. The hashtag was conceived by #PrintChat participants, a weekly Twitter chat for print specialists.

Print Media Centr principal and founder of International Print Day Deborah Corn said: “Participation on International Print Day has generated 123,833,356 impressions on Twitter since we began celebrating our global love for print marketing in 2014. We have seen sharing from six continents, through every time zone on this planet.

“I encourage everyone out there with a social media account to plan for this tremendous opportunity to tell the world about what you do, show off the amazing things you create and produce through ink and substrates, and how you collaborate with all of your partners.”

This year, IPD coincides with the first day of Printing United, a new print trade show in Dallas, Texas, from 23-25 October.

A number of printers from across the UK industry have been getting involved, including Surrey-based Optichrome, Leicester’s The Practical Printer and Oxuniprint.

Real Print, B&B Print and Duplo are also among the UK organisations that have got involved so far.

Greg Selfe, country manager at pro-paper campaign group Two Sides UK, said: “IPD is a great opportunity for the whole industry to come together and share their passion for print on social media and spread the word. We really encourage everyone to get involved and declare their love for print.”

Two Sides partners with the event, offering plenty of free IPD-branded materials on its website to share online.

BPIF chief executive Charles Jarrold added: “IPD is a great opportunity to create a real buzz around our exciting industry, and remind people of its huge hi-tech, vibrant and creative potential.

“Print is all around us all the time, so much so that we’ve become so used to it, we hardly notice all the fantastic things it does all the time. IPD gives us all an event to change that. Using the #IPD19, let’s all take the time to notice and draw attention to all the great things we see in print every day!”
