Insite in Océ Arizona first

Insite Graphics has installed the UK’s first Canon Océ Arizona 2260 XT flatbed as it brings white ink to the events sector.

The large-format, event graphics specialist took delivery of the new 3mx2m device at its South West London premises this week, with full commissioning set to take place place over the Christmas period. It will replace an Agfa Anapurna N2 as the company looks to boost quality and speed and add a white ink capability to its offering.

“We have to stay ahead of competition by innovating and as far as we are aware our competitors don’t use white yet so we wanted to jump in,” said company director and co-founder James Winzar, who launched Insite 15 years ago with friend and industry colleague Chris Berrisford.

“Although it’s not a new innovation for the retail environment, it is for live events so we are scratching our heads thinking of new applications.

“We are really excited about what we’ll be able to do with it. We’re going to have a play with it and see what we can come up with. There’s so much you can do now with wood, metal and glass for example and we want to explore that. I’m sure there will be some crazy ideas we can put to our clients, which is great.”

Insite’s new Océ Arizona UV flatbed has a rigid bed area of 3,080x2,500mm, with roll media option, and can print on rigid media up to a depth of 50.8mm. It uses Onyx software and offers CMYK plus white option printing at a maximum speed of 63.4sqm/h in express mode and 38.1sqm/h in production mode.

The device uses a six-channel piezoelectric inkjet system with two 636-nozzle variable droplet printheads per colour channel. It offers droplet size from six to 42 picolitres and offers resolutions up to 1,440dpi.

The new purchase joins a raft of other wide format equipment at Insite’s premises including six roll-to-roll machines including aqueous to solvent devices, a Fujifilm Acuity device and a 3.2m-wide dye-sub printer from Mtex, which was installed in mid-2015.

The 18-staff, £2m-turnover company specialises in displays for live events such as exhibitions, conferences and awards both internationally and in the UK. It’s clients are generally national and global event organisers.
