HarperCollins turns to Butler Tanner & Dennis for fast production of Michael Jackson book

Butler Tanner & Dennis has completed an initial 100,000 print run of Michael Jackson Legend Hero Icon: A Tribute to the King of Pop, for publisher HarperCollins.

The Frome, Somerset-based colour book printer printed the 192pp title on its eight-colour large-format KBA Rapida 162a press in under one week.

The press carried out the job at speeds of more than 5,000sph on the KBA perfector.

According to the company, such a job would normally take closer to three weeks to complete, but given the sudden nature of Michael Jackson's death on 25 June, it was important to get it done quickly.

Darran O’Connor, clients services director at Butler, Tanner & Dennis, said: "For this sort of run we would normally expect the job to take two to three weeks.

"To condense it down to less than a week is unusual and being able to perfect on the KBA helped to achieve this."

The printing of the Michael Jackson title comes little more than a month after the book printer began production of the official cookbook for the Help For Heroes charity.

O’Connor added: "It is fantastic to have such a massive vote of confidence from a major UK publisher like HarperCollins and we look forward to that continuing."
