Harmsworth Bristol shuts, 88 jobs lost

Newspaper printer Harmsworth Printing has closed the doors of its Bristol plant for the last time following a 30-day consultation.

The closure resulted in a loss of 88 jobs

A source close to Harmsworth told PrintWeek: "The plant has closed today. As I understand it the titles were moved last week and there has been no production at the plant all this week."

It is understood that the Swansea Evening Post has been contracted to Trinity Mirror's Cardiff plant, while the rest of the titles, including the Bristol Evening Post, have moved to Harmsworth's flagship Didcot site.

Harmsworth Bristol entered into consultation with its staff in April this year. The closure of the site is the latest in a long line of shutdowns within the DMGT-owned company's facilities. Grimsby and Leicester have both closed in the last year, following Hull a few years previously.
