Goss France headed for administration, reports claim

Goss France could be placed in redressement judiciare, the French equivalent of administration, tomorrow morning according to local media reports.

An article in French daily Les Echos has claimed that Goss France will file for bankruptcy protection at 11am tomorrow (3 April) at the Commercial Court of Compiègne, placing some 430 jobs at risk.

This includes 320 jobs at the Goss manufacturing facility in Montataire and 110 business consultancy and after-sales service jobs in Nantes.

Goss last restructured its French operations in 2010, leading to a headcount reduction of almost 50% at Montataire, which employed 623 staff in 2010.

A Goss spokesman said: "Goss International can confirm that it is looking at options to reorganize its operations in Europe in line with a simplification of its overall organizational structure.

"This is part of a wider transformation under the leadership of Rick Nichols, which will set Goss International on a track for future growth and end the decade of change the company has endured."

Meanwhile, French trade union CGT has expressed concern that Goss may look to transfer production of its presses to low-cost countries such as China, where its owner Shanghai Electric is based.
