Goodhead Group owner hints at business disposals

Goodhead Group owner Sir John Madejski believes he has too many business interests and has "got to start relinquishing some of them", according to a BBC Four documentary broadcast last night.

The Rich Man, Poor Man documentary was filmed over a three-year period that included the collapse of Northern Rock, at the beginning of the financial crisis, and encompassed Madejski’s investiture at Buckingham Palace in March of this year.

His business empire of some 18 companies includes £46m-turnover printer Goodhead Group – made up of web printer BGP and sheetfed house Stones the Printers – which lost £18.3m last year.

"I’ve got companies burning cash like there's no tomorrow – huge, huge, sums of money," Madejski said. "If there’s anybody who'd like to invest in some very, very good companies I've got some fantastic deals for them."

Madejski’s most high-profile investment, Reading FC, featured heavily in the programme. Madejski stated that he would also be willing to sell his beloved club.

If you missed the documentary, it is possible to watch it on the BBC iPlayer.
