GNM's Observer to close three monthly magazines

Guardian News & Media (GNM) has announced a redesign of the Observer, shrinking the Sunday title from seven sections to four and closing its Sport, Music and Woman monthly magazines.

Following speculation over the future of the 200-year-old paper earlier this year, the redesigned title will now feature business and personal finance sections within the main paper, alongside news, sport and review sections, while the travel section will become part of the Observer Magazine.

Only the Observer Food Monthly will continue of the monthly Observer magazine titles. Polestar won a three-year contract to print the Observer magazine titles in May of last year.

The smaller footprint will mean a reduction in editorial requirements and GNM has reopened its voluntary redundancy scheme while seeking to redeploy staff elsewhere within the group.
