Former Montgomery Litho boss acquires DS Smith Pollokshaws

Thomas Montgomery, the former owner of the collapsed Scottish print group Montgomery Litho, has returned to print as part of a buy-in management buy-out (BIMBO) team at DS Smith Plastics Print Solutions.

DS Smith Plastics Print Solutions account manager Stephen Black and production manager Bryan Munro complete the buy-out team, whose initials form the new company name, MBM Print and Supply Chain Solutions.

An email to suppliers announcing the change of ownership also mentions former general manager of Montgomery Litho Edinburgh Andrew Montgomery, although it does not specify his role within the business.

In the email Thomas Montgomery wrote: "Following a detailed strategic review by DS Smith this business was identified as being a non-core operation when aligned to the group corporate strategic goal of being the leading supplier of recycled packaging for consumer goods.

"With this in mind, DS Smith has worked closely with the local management team and in conjunction with myself, this has resulted in the opportunity for members of the management team and I to acquire the business.

"I am delighted to inform you that this opportunity has now been realised, and with immediate effect the business will now trade under MBM Print and Supply Chain Solutions. For the sake of clarity, MBM represents Montgomery (myself), Black (Stephen Black) and Munro (Bryan Munro).

"Both Stephen and Bryan have over 45 years combined service at the site in sales and production respectively, and I have personally managed the operation of a number of printing facilities for over 30 years."

The email states that all goods delivered on or after 20 June should be invoiced to the new business, MBM Print SCS.

The former SCA Pollokshaws site, which became DS Smith Plastics Print Solutions following DS Smith's acquisition of SCA Packaging in July 2012, houses both sheetfed and web-fed litho presses, mono digital print, pre-press, print finishing, kitting and assembly equipment.
