Former Cromwell Press director to face fraud charges

A former director of failed printer Cromwell Press will appear in court this week over fraud charges.

According to Chippenham Magistrates Court, Andrew Hemmings, who was financial director at the Trowbridge-based business, will appear at 9.15am Thursday (7 April).

He has been charged with nine counts of fraud - seven relating to obtaining money transfer by deception and two relating to fraud by false representation.

It is unclear if the case will heard on the day or moved to the crown court.

Hemmings became director of Cromwell Press in February 1991, the day it was formed, and remained in the role until the company went into administration on 12 February 2009.

The company was then bought by local business man John Boden, using a new business Baldwin, which itself failed in September 2010. Boden complained very early on that suppliers had failed to support the new business.

Although Hemmings was not a director at Baldwin, it is understood that he continued to work at the business.
