Arial topped the list followed by Gill Sans, which it claimed was enjoying a revival following the launch of the OpenType Pro format. Other fonts in the top five are Rotis, Neo Sans and Avenir.
Sebastian Lester, the Monotype Imaging designer who created fourth placed Neo Sans, also designed Monotype's typographic card (pictured). The Christmas tree design was created from the Fairbank font. Originally designed by Alfred Fairbanks in 1929 a digital version was recreated this year by UK head of typography Robin Nicholas and senior designer Carl Crossgrove.
