First editions of the Telegraph printed at Knowsley

News International's printing subsidiary Newsprinters has begun contract printing the <i>Daily Telegraph</i> at its Knowsley print site.

As first reported exclusively in PrintWeek, the move from Telegraph Media Group's Trafford Park site will take place throughout August.

The first print run at Knowsley was completed last night (4 August), while the first weekend edition to be part-printed at the site will be the 9 August edition.

Brian McGee, managing director of Newsprinters, said: "Newsprinters Knowsley is a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility with leading-edge equipment. The team at Knowsley takes great pride in the products they print and there is an excellent atmosphere at the site.

"The fact that another national newspaper has chosen Newsprinters to print its titles is further testament to the high-quality print coming out of Liverpool."

As well as its national titles, The Sun and The Times, Newsprinters also prints 100,000 copies of the Southport, Skelmesdale, Formby, West Lancashire and Maghull regional weekly titles for the Champion Media Group.

Knowsley was one of three sites, along with Scotland and Broxbourne, to be developed as part of a £650m investment in printing by News International.
