Fine Art Printer of the Year 2015: Push Print

“Fantastic, vibrant and beautiful to behold – a superb body of work and I love every one of these books,” said one of the judges. A Strong, Sweet Smell of Incense – A Portrait of Robert Fraser was one of those fantastic works, and that judge was not exaggerating.

The book celebrating the noted 1960s art dealer is a showcase of lavish textures and imagery, from the silk-screened cover in one colour to the delicate 60gsm Bible paper. More vibrancy came in the form of Chantal Joffe & Isabel Myerscough Friendship Portraits, a project involving extensive repro, retouching, cut-outs and extending backgrounds. Two cover versions were printed and bound at quick turnarounds for the opening night at the National Portrait Gallery.

Pureprint Group’s expertise in the finer details of fine art printing impressed the judges, with a body of work including Hackelbury Fine Art exhibition prints, a run including a limited edition of 30 copies and standard edition of 170. Some 2,000 copies of Jenny Saville’s title Oxyrhynchus were printed for the Gagosian Gallery in New York. Of the four entries from Pureprint, “it would be a pleasure to own any of these stunning titles”, enthused the judging panel.
