Extensis offers free upgrade of Universal Type Server

Extensis, a subsidiary of Celartem, has announced the immediate availability of version 1.0.1 of its Universal Type Server, which can be downloaded from its website.

The free update includes a number of performance enhancements, as well as additional font auto-activation plug-ins, and is recommended for all Universal Type Server users.

Extensis' new auto-activation plug-ins work with both Macintosh Client and Windows, and support Adobe Illustrator CS2, Adobe InDesign CS2 and QuarkXPress 8.

Existing plug-ins for Adobe Illustrator CS3, InDesign CS3 and QuarkXPress 7, all of which are optimised for Universal Type Server 1.0.1, are also included in the update.

Plug-in based auto-activation is designed to ensure that only the exact fonts used in a document are activated.

Extensis said this "eliminates font conflicts and silent substitutions that can lead to costly errors and downtime".
