Expert Print increases flexibility with Horizon buy

Commercial printer Expert Print has expanded its bindery after investing in a Horizon SPF/FC-200A stitch-fold-trim line.

The device, which has been installed at the Doncaster-based firm’s factory in the past few months, was bought from Intelligent Finishing Systems.

It follows the recent installation of a Speedmaster XL 75 B2 press, the firm’s second Speedmaster, which joined a CD 102, as well as a range of other finishing kit including a B1 Stahlfolder, a Horizon SPF-200L bookletmaker, a Norpak polywrapper and Tharstern MIS.

The company also operates a Horizon BQ270V perfect binder, a Horizon AFC544 folder, a Foliant laminator, a Polar 137 guillotine and a Muller Martini Bravo S, which the Horizon SPF/FC-200A machine will run alongside.

The 4,500bph JDF-ready Horizon SPF/FC-200A features a 200-programme job memory for instant recall, an icon-based touchscreen for job set-up and a 10-station VAC-Turbo 1000 PowerCollator.

Expert Print managing director Barry Pearson said: “I know Horizon systems. They are easy and quick to set up and simple to use. With our Muller Martini work could take a long time to finish. A job that could take four hours now takes minutes.

“We had one customer that placed an order for 1,000 booklets on a Monday for delivery a few hours away on Wednesday. That put the pressure on but now we can be more flexible knowing that we can produce the work quicker.”

The business has recently secured a number of new contracts with football clubs and a rugby club and is hoping to secure a local transport contract. It is also soon planning to purchase a second laminator.

“We work with the best and invest in the best equipment. Our aim is to offer our customers the best service,” said Pearson.

“Customers don’t want to hear a job is going to be late because this stopped working or that spare part is on its way. All customers want is a fast, high-quality service. That is why we try to have two of everything.”

Expert Print, which was established five years ago, has 25 staff and a turnover of £4m.

The company produces items including brochures, magazines, POS, letterheads, leaflets, flyers, brochures and business stationery for customers including end-users, print management companies, motor dealers and sports clubs.
