Evonprint launches Love Sussex calendar competition

Print and design specialist Evonprint is running its Love Sussex calendar photography competition for the second year running.

This year, the theme of the competition, which will be used to create the 2017 calender, is 'Having fun in Sussex'. Last year's competition attracted hundreds of entries, Evonprint said.

Evonprint managing director Steve Rowland said: “We decided we wanted to identify ourselves uniquely last year and when our PR asked what our DNA was as a business we realised that we are about being local.

“We thought the Love Sussex campaign would be a good way of getting the message across and came up with the idea that instead of us going to the market, why don’t we let the market come to us.”

The competition’s chosen charity is You Raise Me Up, voted for on Evonprint’s Facebook page. You Raise Me Up is an Eastbourne-based charity that provides a support service for parents who have suffered the loss of adult children.

Evonprint will now approach local photography clubs and also ask for submissions from local photographers. Each of the winners will receive a hamper with items inside worth £100.

There will be a print run of approximately 1,000 calendars, costing around £5, with the potential for more to be printed if they sell well. Evonprint will do the print job for free on its Heidelberg 10-colour Speedmaster XL 75 with perfector and coater.

Rowland said he is pleased that this year Evonprint chose to ask the charities to put themselves forward before asking the public to vote for them.

The deadline for entries is 31 August and Rowland said he is excited to see what the locals come up with.

“We were surprised last year as the quality of the photographers was incredible, they were just amazing. It makes you realise how beautiful Sussex is. It is a way of capturing it and relaying that image along, emphasising that it is our local community and we do live in a lovely part of the world.”

Evonprint this year is celebrating its 30th anniversary. It has recently redesigned with a new website.

The £4.3m-turnover printer employs around 40 staff and runs all Heidelberg litho kit. It also does some digital work on two digital printers from Ricoh.
