Escher-Grad launches affordable Cobalt 2 B3 violet platesetter

Escher-Grad launched a B3 violet laser platesetter at Ipex. President and chief executive Najeeb Khalid estimated 85% of visitors to the Escher-Grad stand at the show were there to look at the Cobalt 2 (pictured).

One UK distributor will be Leeds-based Fastek. Sales director Ron Curwen said: "If you talk to B3 printers about CTP, they'd say they can't afford it and guess at an astronomical price. The Escher-Grad Cobalt 2 shows that they can get into CTP at about half the cost.

"The Cobalt 2 has a very flexible resolution of 1,000-3,600 dpi," Curwen added. It will produce plates up to 400x510mm and with its imaging speed of 400 scan lines per second, it can produce a two-page plate in 48 seconds at 1,200dpi.

"The ComfortZone 3 warranty system shows the confidence we have in our products," said Curwen, who added that the technology upon which the Cobalt 2 was based came from Escher-Grad's existing CTP devices.

The Cobalt 2 will sell for approximately 30,000, including the processor, RIP and the engine.
