The eight-colour Ultrachrome K3 ink set is the core technology, which adds an additional pale grey ink that the firm calls light light black to improve the stability and reproduction of neutral colours.
Epson claimed that the improved neutrality makes the results more stable over time and from machine-to-machine, which it highlighted as a benefit for remote proofing applications.
The K3 ink set will be available in a range of new printers from the two-page desktop proofing Stylus Pro 4800, through the 24in wide 7800 to the 44in wide 9800 (pictured).
The 4800, which is in addition to the current Stylus Pro 4000 will be available next month for 1,495, as a result the price of the 4000 has been dropped.
The 7800 and the 9800 will be available in September and will cost 2,395 and 4,495 respectively, the same as the current 7600 and 9600 they replace.
