Stora Enso has confirmed that its Newton Kyme mill in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire will close on 14 January with the loss of 170 jobs (PrintWeek, 13 October).
Mill manager Jim Smith said most jobs would go on 14 January, which is the end of the consultation period, with about 20 remaining until the end of March.
"There are no plans for the site, but at least we can start selling the assets, such as the equipment," said Smith, who will remain until the end of March and then "probably take retirement".
Production of barrier boards ceased on 22 December, but a small sheeting and despatch facility will be available until 31 March.
Alternative extrusion coated polymer products will be available from other Stora Enso group mills.
