Digital Sign announces PHD Mobile and upgrades PHD 13

Digital Sign Technologies has announced the launch of its new Print Head Doctor (PHD) Mobile printhead cleaner.

The cleaner will become available for purchase in about two weeks.

The Canada-based printhead cleaner developer has also announced an upgrade to its PHD 13 model, with new pumps available from Swiss manufacturer KNF for an extra $520 (£397).

According to Digital Sign managing director Vladimir Galentovsky, the pumps can handle a wider variety of chemicals and have pressure levels of 25psi, 15psi more than the machine's previous pumps.

The PHD 13 currently costs £2,600 and PHD Mobile will cost around £750.

PHD Mobile is Digital Sign’s first mobile printhead cleaner. It features two one-litre bottles that can be transported and run off battery power, capable of running autonomously for half an hour at a time.

Galentovsky said: “Every technician will want this machine as a tool because it can clean any type of printhead, from small Epson and HP machines to huge printing presses with hundreds of printheads; it can universally maintain all these printheads.”

Galentovsky also said there had already been a number of testimonials from customers pleased with the upgrade to the PHD 13.

“The testimonials report an increase in the performance of the cleaners. Printers can print as fast as when they were new because the print heads are so clean that the printers remain at a high speed and a high quality,” he said.

The Swiss pumps were the second upgrade to the PHD 13, the first of which, released in April, increased its tanks’ frequency from industry-standard 40kHz to 75kHz, in what it referred to as an advanced ultrasonic upgrade. This is the highest frequency ever recorded by a printhead cleaner.

The PHD 13 had its initial release last October, at the same time as it upgraded its PHD 11 and 12 models. It is said by Digital Sign to easily double the life of a printhead, to on average five or six years.

Galentovsky said the PHD 13 with its upgrades is selling “very well” in the UK and he anticipates PHD Mobile will do the same.

The company, which has offices in Mississauga near Toronto, employs 10 staff.
