Dayfold has signed up with CarbonQuota to measure the carbon footprint of its products as they are produced.

The Dorset litho and digital printer, which produces both print and packaging, signed up to the service in response to interest from one of its key clients, beauty company Lush Cosmetics.

CarbonQuota’s calculator, which has been integrated directly into Dayfold’s Tharstern MIS, means that Dayfold is now able to automatically generate carbon footprints based on the exact specification of each job.

“CarbonQuota gives us instant, accurate carbon footprint measurements to support our customers on their journey to net-zero print and packaging,” said Lee Carpenter, Dayfold’s sustainability manager.

Dayfold had previously struggled to produce precise carbon footprint data, which in turn made it difficult for customers to chart their course to net-zero emissions.

While prompted by Lush, the collaboration with CarbonQuota will now prove of continuing benefit to Dayfold, according to managing director Del Simmons.

He said: “This joint project with one of our key customers, Lush Cosmetics, and CarbonQuota has been a hugely beneficial experience for Dayfold.

“We are now one step nearer our goal of becoming the producer of choice for lower impact print and packaging."

Speaking to Printweek, Simmons added that the partnership was "very exciting", and that Dayfold had "a lot more to follow on the sustainability front".

CarbonQuota launched its Essentials calculator in May at Fespa 2023.

The software as a service product is able to integrate with a variety of third-party software providers, including Tharstern, PrintIQ, Element and Optimus MIS, with carbon footprints communicated to the customer through quotations or printer reports.
