Paper and board supplier Chapelton has teamed with CarbonQuota to become Carbon Neutral on its direct operations.

Aylesford, Kent-based Chapelton said the initial project had taken six months, with managing director Neil Skelton describing it as “a great beginning” for the business.

“This first step is focusing on our direct operations and in the future we will include all logistics and products,” he explained.

Skelton said that he expected “a large proportion” of its materials to be available as Carbon Neutral products over time.

“We are currently working on a plan to reduce our CO2e emissions and have begun streamlining how we manage our in-house waste, alongside other environmental projects such as removing as much single-use packaging as possible. We are working to reduce this further,” he added.

“We are also looking at ways to reduce both our commuter and business miles. Our reduction of carbon use is part of our long-term business plan.”

Chapelton is FSC and PEFC certified and sells a range of virgin and recycled fibre paper and cartonboard products, made by international manufacturers in Europe, the Far East and Brazil.

It also supplies paper straws and specialty materials for applications including food and electronics packaging, with a focus on plastic-free alternatives, biodegradable and compostable materials.

It works with suppliers including Burgo Group, Suzano, International Paper and Smurfit Kappa.

The privately-owned business was established 37 years ago.
