In April, the 13.6m-turnover firm will install a new IBM Infoprint 4100 digital printer with saddlestitchers and a 16-station Muller Martini Acoro perfect binder.
The Infoprint 4100 will be housed at CGIs Millharbour hub in Docklands in a move to centralise all its printing on one site. The idea to consolidate was conceived two years ago. CGIs Peckham plant at Choumert Grove will become its in-house perfect binding centre with the addition of the Acoro, while its Print Village site will focus on fulfilment and distribution.
The investment places greater emphasis on night operations to allow CGI to deliver time-sensitive materials to clients, including major City banks.
CGI will cut 35 jobs from its 205-strong workforce, but it will create 10 new jobs in sales, operations and IT, which those with the correct skillsets will be able to apply for. A
month-long consultation period began on Tuesday (26 February) and will explore voluntary redundancies within middle management and production. Compulsory cuts may be necessary.
CGI chief executive Peter Furlonge said: The consolidation of our sites is a positive move. Unfortunately, there are staff casualties, but this would have happened over the course
of time anyway. The consolidation means that our remaining team is the strongest in the industry.
