Cartiere Burgo has taken 15 days of downtime at three
of its mills, removing
40,000 tonnes of coated
and uncoated fine paper from the market.
The production cutbacks, which involved three of
the company's mills - Ardennes in Belgium, and Tolmezzo and Avezanno in Italy - took place between September and the end of November.
Further cutbacks are planned in its fine paper production, but no decision has been made as to where or by how much production will be curtailed.
At its 245,000tpa Avezzano mill, Burgo has also decided to produce coated paper alongside the mill's core product, coated woodfree paper.
The production grade switch was made to take advantage of the current strong mechanical market, and to avoid an imbalance of supply and demand in the fine paper market.
