Benson Group embarks on 250,000 spend with additional GUK folders

Packaging giant Benson Group has installed a new folder from GUK and taken an early option on a second machine, forming a potential 250,000 total spend.

The latest 10-plate FA43, which was bought from GUK's UK distributor M Partners, was installed at the Benson's Medica Packaging pharmaceutical operation at Crewe at the beginning of the February.

This latest deal comes after the group's first FA43 was installed in 2007, and as well as the second the machine Benson has agreed an option for a third machine as part of the £250,000 deal, although it is yet to confirm a delivery date.

According to 800-staff Benson Group, the investment has followed "substantial growth" in patient information leaflet production work, which has led to a demand for 30% more folding capacity.

Mark Kerridge, group managing director, said: "Legislation requires more complex patient information leaflets, and we have also experienced a significant growth in the number of overall orders that we have been winning.

"GUK products are designed well for this task, and will allow us to significantly increase productivity without adding additional labour into the plant.

"Our first GUK folder has been exceptional. We have also been very pleased with the high-quality after sales support on the product."

The machines allow for complex folds on multiple-up work with a 1mm tolerance, and will be capable of producing millions of leaflets per week.

Benson Group's investment follows the installation of a new Gallus EM340S press, which also went in at Crewe.
