The WWF has intensified its campaign to raise awareness of the FSC products and logo, and its assurance that any product carrying the symbol comes from a sustainably managed forest.
The BBCs declared aim of printing all its 37 magazines on FSC paper is currently being foiled by limited supply.
"Only SCA is producing the quality at the moment, but Caledonian Paper is working on it and we hope it succeeds," said BBC Worldwide group production manager David Halford.
BBC Wildlife was its first title to be printed on FSC paper in December 2000, followed by BBC Music.
"FSC is an excellent communication tool. We want FSC because we can prove to our customers that we are doing the right thing and that our paper comes from well-managed sources," added Halford.
WWFs aim is to encourage as many manufacturers as possible to produce FSC paper, said its European forest programme communications officer, Helma Brandlmaier. "In the past we have heard the reasons of cost and politics, but cost is no longer an issue."
Brandlmaier hoped manufacturers would realise the difference they could make to the environment and their customers by embarking on FSC certification.
WWF has seen a boom in Europe, with eight Danish printers taking up FSC chain-of-custody certification, including Stibo Graphic.
