Agfa to launch workflow and plates for newspapers at Ifra

Agfa is aiming to tighten its grip on the newspaper market with the unveiling of a range of new products at Ifra this week.

Agfa’s Arkitex Core 6.0 workflow and N92v violet plates will both receive their worldwide debuts, alongside an as-yet-unnamed violet chemistry-free plate.

Agfa UK plate product manager Mike Loose said: “The N92v is an upgrade to the existing N91v plate, featuring improved run lengths, resolution, cosmetics and easier processing.

“However, of more interest will be the violet chemistry-free plates, which are on beta trial and have achieved run lengths of 200,000.”

Both products are scheduled to launch in the next 12 months, once trials have completed, with the N92v expected to be phased in gradually.

Loose said: “We won’t go changing large newspapers overnight, so the N92v will have quite a long phase-in. The chemistry-free plate, which was announced at Ipex, is still on schedule for a 2008 launch.”

Agfa revealed that it expects the improvements made in the N92v plate to make it viable for commercial printing in addition to newspaper printing.

Meanwhile, Arkitex Core 6.0, the next incarnation of Agfa’s workflow for newspaper publishers and printers, is set to be revealed with a number of improvements on the previous version.

Agfa worldwide workflow system product manager Jeff Cord said: “Key new features include tighter integration with industry-leading pre-flight packages, page notes, the ability to reject pages for output, as well as a number of speed improvements.”
