AD Bell invests in Epson kit for car wraps

Signage and graphics company AD Bell Sign Systems has bought its first Epson printer, a SureColor SC-S80600, to assist with its vehicle wrapping jobs.

The machine, a ten-colour solvent inkjet system, was supplied by Perfect Colours and installed at the Harrogate-based firm’s 150sqm premises last month.

Costing around £15,000, it has replaced one of the company’s three HP Latex 360s, which has been part exchanged. The other two have been retained for jobs such as wall graphics and banners.

“This printer is very, very good – the quality is a lot better, with punchier and more consistent colours. Everything they said it could do it does, and does really easily,” said AD Bell managing director Simon Bell.

In March, AD Bell will be wrapping a truck which will feature Astro Turf. The vinyl wrap must match that shade of green and the firm said it is now confident that this can be achieved “very easily”.

“A big advantage is that Epson supplies its own manufactured printheads and inks so you are not constantly recalibrating and the colour doesn’t vary as you switch between ink suppliers,” said Bell.

The SC-S80600 uses Epson’s Micro Piezo TFP printhead, and for the black and each of the colours there are 360 nozzles applying ink from the 700ml ink tanks.

The ten colours for this device are from the UltraChrome GS3 range, which provide a 1,440dpi resolution. AD Bell specified its machine with an Onyx RIP.

In addition to car wraps, AD Bell’s 11 staff also provide window graphics, interior display and exterior fascia signage. The firm turns over around £800,000.
