Slam Signs in SureColor swoop

Signage and printing company Slam Signs has bought a four-colour Epson SureColor SC-S40600 large-format printer to tackle an upsurge of vehicle graphics work.

It is the company’s third SureColor - it has owned an SC-S30600 since its launch in 2012 and purchased its eight-colour SC-S70600 in 2015.

The new machine cost around £10,000 and will replace the SC-S30600 this week, to work alongside the remaining SureColor. The five-staff company also runs two Summa cutters.

Slam Signs' business partners David Jorge and Jodie Banfather said the new SureColor was good on design and build while installation and set-up were straightforward and simple.

“Things like the addition of a large, clear LED-lit inspection panel for viewing the printing area once printing is in full flow make the printer easy to use,” said Jorge.

“The print quality is great, the colour amazing. When the machine was first launched a few years ago it had a few teething problems, and the back-up was superb.

“And unlike some machines, the SureColors look good, which for us is quite important – our kit is clearly visible to customers who come into our studio."

The company in St Albans, Hertfordshire, serves customers from small start-ups to well-known nationwide companies and has been in business nine years.

Epson reseller Papergraphics supplied the new 58.4sqm/hr SC-S40600, one of three new 64in (1.6m) SureColor professional signage printers launched earlier this year.

It features Epson’s PrecisionCore printhead technology running UltraChrome GS3 inks.

Jorge added: “Output speed is excellent and the wider colour gamut gives amazing quality and clarity. Whatever substrate is being printed, we can be confident the colours will match consistently.”

He said the company was taking on more vehicle graphics. The market, he said, was more accessible as prices were coming down.
