680 jobs to go as Adobe cuts costs

Software specialist Adobe has announced plans to slash its global workforce by 9%, eliminating some 680 full-time positions, in a bid to realign its costs in connection with its 2010 operating plan.

The restructuring plan is expected to incur pre-tax charges of approximately $65m-$71m (£38.8m-£42.3m), including $48m-$52m relating to employee severance payments.

Adobe said it expected to record approximately $18m-$20m of the restructuring charges, which also include costs of $17m-$19m relating to the consolidation of leased facilities, in its forthcoming fourth-quarter results.

"We expect to complete the majority of the activities relating to the restructuing plan by the end of fiscal 2010," the company added.
